Microsonic mic Ultrasonic Sensors
Rugged All-Metal M30 Ultrasonic Sensors for Harsh Industrial Environments
Microsonic mic ultrasonic sensors provide non-contact distance and object detection in a rugged M30 cylindrical design with an all-metal housing and metal M12 connector. Five operating-range classes from 250 mm to 6,000 mm support applications ranging from shorter-distance detection through long-range level and position measurement.
The mic family is designed for applications where the sensor housing and connector may be exposed to high mechanical loads or demanding industrial conditions. Models are available with single or dual PNP switching outputs, or an analogue 4–20 mA / 0–10 V output, with Teach-in and LinkControl available for sensor configuration.

Why Choose Microsonic mic Ultrasonic Sensors?
The mic family combines ultrasonic sensing with a particularly robust all-metal M30 construction. The housing and M12 connector are designed for applications where mechanical durability is an important consideration.
Unlike the mic+ family, mic sensors do not use an integrated display or local operating buttons. Sensor setup is performed using Teach-in through pin 5 or LinkControl from a PC.

Typical Applications
Microsonic mic sensors are well suited to:
- Tank, hopper, and container level monitoring
- Object presence and position detection
- Distance measurement on conveyors and material-handling equipment
- Stack-height and material-height monitoring
- Position monitoring on automated machinery
- Packaging and processing equipment
- Applications exposed to increased mechanical loads
- Applications where optical sensing may be affected by target colour, transparency, gloss, or reflectivity
How to Choose a mic Sensor
Start by selecting the operating range that best matches the normal working distance of the application:
- mic-25: 250 mm operating range
- mic-35: 350 mm operating range
- mic-130: 1,300 mm operating range
- mic-340: 3,400 mm operating range
- mic-600: 6,000 mm operating range
Next, select the required output configuration. Depending on the model, the mic family is available with:
- 1 PNP switching output
- 2 PNP switching outputs
- 1 analogue output with 4–20 mA / 0–10 V automatic output selection
Consider the required operating distance, output type, resolution, mounting requirements, and environmental conditions when selecting a specific model.
Operating Range vs. Maximum Range
The operating range is the primary working-distance specification and should normally be used when selecting a sensor.
The maximum range represents extended detection capability beyond the operating range under suitable target and application conditions.
For dependable sensor selection, use the operating range as the primary design value rather than the maximum range.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microsonic mic Ultrasonic Sensors
What operating ranges are available in the Microsonic mic family?
The mic family is available in five operating-range classes: 250 mm, 350 mm, 1,300 mm, 3,400 mm, and 6,000 mm. The appropriate range depends on the normal working distance and target conditions of the application.
What is the main difference between Microsonic mic and mic+ sensors?
Both families use M30 cylindrical housings and cover the same five operating-range classes, but their design and configuration methods differ. The mic family uses a rugged all-metal housing and metal connector without an integrated display or operating buttons. The mic+ family provides an integrated digital display, TouchControl, more output configurations, and selected IO-Link models.
What output options are available for mic sensors?
Depending on the model, mic sensors are available with one PNP switching output, two PNP switching outputs, or one analogue output with automatic 4–20 mA / 0–10 V output selection.
How are Microsonic mic sensors configured?
Configuration can be performed using Teach-in through pin 5. LinkControl can also be used for PC-based sensor configuration.
Why is the all-metal construction important?
The all-metal M30 housing and metal M12 connector make the mic family particularly suitable where the sensor may be subjected to higher mechanical loads or demanding industrial operating conditions.
Can multiple mic sensors operate close together?
Yes. Multiple mic sensors can be synchronized to help prevent mutual ultrasonic interference when installed in close proximity. Up to 10 sensors can be synchronized directly through pin 5; larger installations can use the optional SyncBox1.
