Why Choose Microsonic lpc+ Ultrasonic Sensors?
The lpc+ family combines compact M18 installation, IO-Link communication, flexible output configurations, and multiple sensing ranges in one product platform.
Straight and 90° sensor versions allow the sensing direction to be matched to available mounting space, while Push-Pull outputs provide flexible connection to control systems. Models with analogue output can also provide continuous distance measurement in addition to switching functionality.

- Object presence and position detection
- Distance measurement on conveyors and material-handling equipment
- Package and container detection
- Fill-level and material-height monitoring
- Position monitoring on automated machinery
- Packaging and processing equipment

- Applications where optical sensing may be affected by target colour, transparency, gloss, or reflectivity
How to Choose an lpc+ Sensor
Start by selecting the operating range that best matches the normal working distance of the application:
- lpc+15: 150 mm operating range
- lpc+25: 250 mm operating range
- lpc+35: 350 mm operating range
- lpc+100: 1,000 mm operating range
Next, choose the required housing orientation:
- Straight housing for conventional axial sensing
- 90° housing where the sensing direction needs to be perpendicular to the sensor body or mounting space is restricted
Then select the required output configuration. Depending on the model, lpc+ sensors are available with:
- 2 Push-Pull switching outputs
- 1 Push-Pull switching output + 4–20 mA analogue output
- 1 Push-Pull switching output + 0–10 V analogue output
All lpc+ models support IO-Link, allowing digital process data, parameterization, and diagnostics through a compatible IO-Link system.
Straight vs. 90° Housing
lpc+ sensors are available in straight and 90° versions to provide greater installation flexibility.
The straight version measures directly along the longitudinal axis of the sensor. The 90° version directs the ultrasonic sensing field perpendicular to the sensor body, which can simplify installation where available depth is limited or the sensor must be mounted parallel to a machine surface.
The sensing principle and family functionality remain the same; housing orientation should be selected based on the available mounting location and required sensing direction.
Operating Range vs. Maximum Range
The operating range is the primary working-distance specification and should normally be used when selecting an lpc+ sensor.
The maximum range represents extended detection capability beyond the operating range under suitable target and application conditions.
For example, the lpc+15 family has a 150 mm operating range and can detect suitable targets at greater distances under favourable conditions. For dependable sensor selection, use the operating range as the primary design value rather than the maximum range.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microsonic lpc+ Ultrasonic Sensors
What operating ranges are available in the Microsonic lpc+ family?
The lpc+ family is available in four operating-range classes: 150 mm, 250 mm, 350 mm, and 1,000 mm. The appropriate range depends on the normal working distance, target characteristics, and installation conditions.
Do all Microsonic lpc+ sensors support IO-Link?
Yes. The lpc+ family is designed with IO-Link and Smart Sensor Profile support. IO-Link can be used for digital process data, parameterization, and diagnostics through a compatible IO-Link system.
What output configurations are available?
Depending on the model, lpc+ sensors are available with two Push-Pull switching outputs, one Push-Pull switching output plus a 4–20 mA analogue output, or one Push-Pull switching output plus a 0–10 V analogue output.
What is the difference between straight and 90° lpc+ sensors?
Straight versions measure along the axis of the cylindrical sensor body. The 90° versions direct the sensing field perpendicular to the sensor body, which can be useful where mounting depth is limited or the installation requires a side-facing sensing direction.
How are lpc+ sensors configured?
lpc+ sensors can be configured using Teach-in, LinkControl, or IO-Link. The appropriate method depends on the installation and control-system requirements.
Why use an ultrasonic sensor instead of an optical sensor?
Ultrasonic sensing is based on sound rather than reflected light, so detection is generally less dependent on target colour, transparency, gloss, or reflectivity. This can make lpc+ sensors useful in applications where optical sensing conditions are difficult or variable.
