Why Choose Microsonic cube Ultrasonic Sensors
The cube family is designed for applications where mounting flexibility is as important as sensing performance. Its rotatable sensor head can be positioned in five orientations, allowing the sensing direction to be adapted to the machine layout without changing to a different housing configuration.
The 40 × 40 × 40 mm cubic housing works with a QuickLock mounting bracket for fast, tool-free installation. Four LEDs make operating status visible from different mounting positions, while integrated IO-Link, Teach-in configuration, temperature compensation, and multiple output choices support flexible machine integration.
Key Features & Advantages

How to Choose a Microsonic cube Sensor
- Operating range: Select the cube-35, cube-130, or cube-340 range according to the normal working distance required by the application.
- Maximum sensing distance: Use the maximum range only as the farther detection capability under suitable target and application conditions; the operating range should remain the primary selection specification.
- Switching output: Choose the /F version when a Push-Pull switching output is required for presence, position, or level switching.
- Analog + switching output: Choose the /FFIU version when continuous distance or level measurement is required in addition to switching functionality.
- Sensor orientation: Use the five-position rotatable sensor head where the sensing direction needs to be adapted to machine geometry or mounting constraints.
- IO-Link: cube sensors support IO-Link for digital parameterization, process data, and diagnostics.
- Mounting: Consider the QuickLock bracket where fast, tool-free sensor installation or replacement is desirable.
- Target and environment: Confirm target size, surface, orientation, ambient conditions, and available mounting space when selecting the sensor and operating range.
Operating Range vs. Maximum Range
For Microsonic cube sensors, the operating range should be treated as the primary working-distance specification when selecting a model. It represents the range intended for normal sensor selection and application planning.
The maximum range represents the farther detection capability available under suitable target and application conditions and should not be treated as the normal recommended working distance.
The cube family provides three operating-range classes:
- cube-35: 350 mm operating range
- cube-130: 1,300 mm operating range
- cube-340: 3,400 mm operating range
Choose the model whose operating range comfortably covers the required sensing distance rather than selecting solely by the farthest possible detection distance.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microsonic cube Ultrasonic Sensors
What are Microsonic cube ultrasonic sensors used for?
Microsonic cube sensors are used for non-contact distance measurement, object detection, position monitoring, and level measurement on industrial machinery and automated equipment. Their cuboidal housing and adjustable sensor-head orientation are particularly useful where mounting position requires flexibility.
What makes the cube family different from other cuboidal ultrasonic sensors?
A key difference is the rotatable sensor head, which can be mounted in five positions. This allows the sensing direction to be changed without requiring a different sensor housing. The family also combines QuickLock mounting, visible status LEDs, multiple output configurations, and integrated IO-Link.
What operating ranges are available for cube sensors?
The cube family is available with operating ranges of 350 mm, 1,300 mm, and 3,400 mm. The operating range should be used as the primary distance specification when selecting the appropriate model.
Are Microsonic cube sensors available with IO-Link?
Yes. The cube family supports IO-Link 1.1.2 and Smart Sensor Profile. IO-Link can be used for digital parameterization, process data, and diagnostic information in compatible control systems.
What output options are available?
cube sensors are available with either a Push-Pull switching output or a configuration combining a Push-Pull switching output with an analog output. On the combined-output versions, the analog output can also be configured as a second Push-Pull switching output.
Can the sensing direction be changed?
Yes. The cube sensor head can be mounted in five positions, allowing the sensing direction to be adapted to the installation and machine layout.
