Why Choose Microsonic crm+ Ultrasonic Sensors
The crm+ family is designed for applications where the sensor may be exposed to aggressive media, contamination, splashes, caking, or chemical cleaning processes. The protective PEEK film helps protect the ultrasonic transducer and can make hardened contamination easier to remove from the sensing surface.
crm+ sensors also provide features such as temperature compensation, Teach-in or numeric configuration, synchronization, multiplex operation, and a digital display. Selected versions support IO-Link for digital parameterization, process data, and diagnostics.
Key Features & Advantages
- Chemical-resistant sensing surface: Wear-resistant PEEK film protects the ultrasonic transducer from aggressive media, contamination, and caking.
- Stainless-steel M30 housing: Robust cylindrical format for demanding industrial installations.
- Multiple sensing ranges: Five operating-range classes support short- to long-range detection and measurement.
- Switching and analog options: Available configurations include switching outputs and 4–20 mA / 0–10 V analog models.
- IO-Link capability: Selected crm+ versions support digital parameterization, process data, and diagnostics.
- Temperature compensation: Helps maintain measurement performance as ambient temperature changes.
- Synchronization and multiplex operation: Useful where multiple ultrasonic sensors operate in close proximity.
Typical Applications
- Chemical processing
- Tank and vessel monitoring
- Filling and material-handling systems
- Food and beverage equipment
- Industrial automation
- Building materials and processing
- Applications involving contamination, deposits, or aggressive cleaning media
How to Choose a Microsonic crm+ Sensor
- Operating range: Select the model around the recommended working distance.
- Maximum range: Use the maximum range as the farther detection limit, not as the primary selection distance.
- Switching output: Choose discrete output versions for presence, level, or position detection.
- Analog output: Select analog models for continuous distance or level measurement.
- IO-Link: Choose an IO-Link-capable model where digital parameterization, diagnostics, or process data are required.
- Environment: Consider target material, chemical exposure, contamination, temperature, and mounting conditions.
Operating Range vs. Maximum Range
For crm+ sensor selection, the operating range should be treated as the primary working-distance specification. The maximum range identifies the farther detection limit available under suitable target and application conditions.
For example, the crm+600/DD/TC/E has a 6,000 mm operating range and an 8,000 mm maximum range.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microsonic crm+ Ultrasonic Sensors
What are Microsonic crm+ ultrasonic sensors used for?
Microsonic crm+ sensors are used for non-contact distance measurement, level monitoring, object detection, and positioning in applications where chemical resistance, contamination resistance, or a robust stainless-steel sensor construction is required.
What makes the crm+ sensor family chemical resistant?
The ultrasonic transducer face is protected by a wear-resistant PEEK film, while the sensor body uses a stainless-steel threaded housing. The protective film helps resist aggressive media and makes contamination or hardened deposits easier to remove from the sensing surface.
What sensing ranges are available for crm+ sensors?
The crm+ family is available in five operating-range classes of approximately 250 mm, 350 mm, 1,300 mm, 3,400 mm, and 6,000 mm. Maximum measuring distances vary by model and extend up to 8,000 mm on selected long-range versions.
What is the difference between operating range and maximum range?
The operating range is the primary working-distance specification used for sensor selection. The maximum range is the farthest detection limit that may be available under suitable target and application conditions. For reliable application design, select the sensor around its operating range.
Are crm+ sensors available with IO-Link?
Yes. Selected crm+ switching-output versions support IO-Link, allowing compatible models to communicate parameter, process, and diagnostic data through an IO-Link master. IO-Link availability should be confirmed for the individual part number.
What output options are available?
Depending on the crm+ model, configurations include single switching outputs, dual switching outputs, Push-Pull switching, and analog 4–20 mA / 0–10 V outputs. Verify the individual SKU specifications when selecting an output configuration.
Can multiple crm+ sensors operate close together?
Yes. crm+ sensors support synchronization and multiplex operation, which can help reduce ultrasonic interference when multiple sensors operate in close proximity.
