Microsonic dbk+5 Double Sheet Sensors
Ultrasonic Double-Sheet Detection for Thicker & More Demanding Sheet Materials
Microsonic dbk+5 ultrasonic double-sheet sensors detect missing sheets, single sheets, and double sheets in sheet-fed and material-handling processes. The transmitter sends ultrasonic energy through the material to a receiver positioned on the opposite side, allowing the system to distinguish between single and multiple layers.
The dbk+5 family is designed for materials that extend beyond the normal working range of the dbk+4 series. It is particularly suited to coarse corrugated board, thicker plastic sheets, printed circuit boards, thin sheet metal, and other heavier or acoustically demanding materials.
- Material: nickel-plated brass
- Temperature: -40°C to +200°C

Why Choose Microsonic dbk+5 Double Sheet Control?
The dbk+5 family extends ultrasonic double-sheet detection into applications where thicker or heavier materials require greater ultrasonic transmission capability.
It provides reliable monitoring of missing material, a single sheet, or multiple sheets travelling together, helping prevent double feeds, misfeeds, jams, and downstream processing problems.
The transmitter and receiver can be positioned according to the material and machine layout, with a selectable separation of approximately 30 to 70 mm.
dbk+5 vs. dbk+4
The primary difference between the two families is the material range.
dbk+4 provides a broad general-purpose platform for paper, film, fine corrugated material, thin sheet metal, wafers, and many common sheet-fed applications.
dbk+5 is intended for applications involving thicker or more difficult-to-penetrate materials, including coarse corrugated cardboard, thicker plastic sheets, PCBs, and thin sheet metal.
Choose dbk+5 when the material falls outside the practical working range of dbk+4 or requires greater ultrasonic transmission capability.
dbk+5 Configurations
The dbk+5 range includes complete sensor configurations as well as separate transmitter and receiver components.
Complete Sensor Configurations
Complete dbk+5 systems combine the transmitter, receiver, and control electronics required for ultrasonic double-sheet monitoring.
Separate Transmitters and Receivers
Individual transmitter and receiver components are available for replacement or for applications requiring a specific sensing-head arrangement.
Different cable and connection configurations allow the sensing components to be integrated around the available machine space and material path.

Typical Applications
Microsonic dbk+5 sensors are well suited to:
- Corrugated-board processing
- Heavy paperboard handling
- Plastic-sheet feeding
- PCB handling and assembly
- Thin sheet-metal feeding
- Packaging machinery
- Printing and converting equipment
- Automated sheet feeders
- Material-handling systems
- Double-feed prevention
- Missing-sheet monitoring
- Applications where dbk+4 does not provide sufficient material penetration
Material & Mounting Considerations
Thicker sheet materials can require different transmitter and receiver mounting arrangements than lightweight paper or film.
The dbk+5 transmitter and receiver should be positioned so ultrasonic energy can pass reliably through the material. The appropriate spacing and mounting angle depend on the material type, thickness, structure, and available machine geometry.
This is particularly important with materials such as corrugated board, plastic sheet, PCB material, and thin metal, where acoustic transmission can vary substantially from conventional paper.
How to Choose a Microsonic dbk+5 Sensor
Start with the material type and thickness.
Choose dbk+5 when the application involves heavier or more acoustically demanding sheet materials that fall beyond the normal working range of dbk+4.
Then determine whether you require:
- a complete dbk+5 sensor system
- a replacement transmitter
- a replacement receiver
- a particular cable configuration
- or a specific transmitter/receiver mounting arrangement
Then compare:
- material type
- material thickness
- transmitter-to-receiver spacing
- required mounting angle
- available installation space
- complete system vs. individual component
- switching-output requirements
- Teach-in requirements
- cable and connection arrangement
- environmental conditions
Complete Sensors vs. Replacement Components
Not every dbk+5 product listed on this page is a complete double-sheet sensor system.
The family includes both complete transmitter/receiver configurations and individual transmitter or receiver components for replacement or specific machine installations.
Before ordering, confirm whether the application requires a complete system or an individual component.

Frequently Asked Questions About Microsonic dbk+5 Double Sheet Sensors
What does a dbk+5 double-sheet sensor detect?
The dbk+5 system distinguishes between missing material, a single sheet, and two or more sheets travelling together by evaluating ultrasonic transmission through the material.
What materials are dbk+5 sensors designed for?
dbk+5 is particularly suited to coarse corrugated cardboard, thicker plastic sheets, printed circuit boards, thin sheet metal, and other heavier sheet materials.
What is the difference between dbk+4 and dbk+5?
dbk+4 covers a broad range of conventional paper, film, and sheet materials. dbk+5 extends double-sheet detection to thicker and more acoustically demanding materials that may fall outside the practical operating range of dbk+4.
How far apart can the dbk+5 transmitter and receiver be mounted?
The transmitter-to-receiver spacing can be adapted to the application, with approximately 30 to 70 mm available depending on the installation and material.
Why does dbk+5 include separate transmitters and receivers?
Separate components allow replacement of an existing sensing head and provide additional flexibility when the application requires a specific transmitter/receiver arrangement.
Does dbk+5 use IO-Link?
The current dbk+5 family is primarily configured as a conventional ultrasonic double-sheet control system with switching outputs and Teach-in rather than as the IO-Link-focused platform we see on selected dbk+4 configurations.
