Quick Facts About Metal Conduits

What is a Metal Conduit?

Metal conduit is a tubing that is made from a metallic material that is used to protect wires, cables, or hoses from damage. They are produced in both rigid and flexible versions. At IBIS Electro-Products Corp., we only supply flexible metal and plastic conduits. Popular metal conduit material is steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and aluminum.

Metal conduits are generally used in applications where the conduit has a greater chance of physical contact with debris, objects and even vermin. Conduit applications subject to abrasion, high temperature or welding splatter are also best handled by metal conduits.

Which Brand of Metal Conduits Do You Carry?

We supply only the Flexa brand of conduits. The Flexa family of flexible metal conduits include the names:

  • FLEXAgraff very robust, heavy duty, flexible steel & stainless steel, liquidtight and non-liquidtight versions
  • FLEXAgraff ASF medical & pharma grade tough conduit with FDA rated silicone jacketing
  • FLEXAgraff CU-PU, EMC & EMI rated, rugged, tinned copper wire braided, PU jacketed
  • SPR & SPR-VA, small to large diameter conduits, PVC, PU, PA jackets, liquidtight and non liquidtight very flexible

When Should You Use Metal Conduits?

Metal conduits should be used when you need a strong conduit to protect wire and hoses from any high level of impact damage. They are also suitable in higher temperature applications that exceed plastic conduit temperature limits for softening or melting.

When Should You NOT Use Metal Conduits?

While metal conduits can be used in light duty applications, they are typically too heavy, cumbersome to install or physically excessive for light duty applications. You are better off using plastic conduits instead.

Can Metal Conduits be Used Outside?

Yes. All of Flexa’s metal conduits can be used in outside applications. They can withstand some of the harshest conditions that you throw at them. With a temperature range of -150°C to +600°C it can withstand almost any weather.
